The Fund was established by the Kiwanis Club of Minot in 1985 to assist deserving students attending a Minot post-secondary institution and receiving training in a music education related field and is named in honor of Mr. Arturro Petrucci, a long time music educator in Minot. The purpose of the Fund is to benefit youth, which is also the aim of Kiwanis International and The Kiwanis Club of Minot. The Fund is a Permanent Endowment Fund Agreement between The Kiwanis Club of Minot and the North Dakota Community Foundation located in Bismarck.
Judge Gary Holum was a long time member of the Minot Kiwanis Club who epitomized the attributes of serving others and especially the youth of the Minot community. Judge Holum’s personality was of such a disposition as to encourage young people to reach for their goals and to promote the attributes of community service. In 2010, the Kiwanis Club of Minot gave the Minot State University Foundation, $5,000 to start a scholarship for Criminal Justice Majors at Minot State University in his honor.
Judge Holum served on the Minot State University Board of Regents and was looked upon as a leader in the Minot community. His service in the legal community was well established and he served with distinction and honor. Kiwanis could always count on Gary to deal black jack for the kids at the After Prom party-he would always have on his white shirt and red bow tie. During Pancake Day, Gary enjoyed making Mickey Mouse pancakes for the kids to enjoy with the M & M’s as eyes. His tall stature and boisterous voice filled the meetings and events, and Kiwanis wanted to keep his memory alive through this gift.
